WHO IS DOVE?
Dana (Dove) Devereaux is an American contemporary artist based in Southern California, primarily working in the Web3 space. Dove’s work is described as surreal, sometimes disturbing, abrasive and dark. Her work has been compared to artists like Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon and Giorgio de Chirico. Many of her themes revolve around loss, love and spirituality. Dove’s pieces are often self portraits or re-enactments of true life events designed to tell her story so that the world might better understand her, so she might better understand herself, and to leave documentation of her life for centuries to come.
Born July 28th, 1999 in Upland, California, Dove began drawing at the young age of 2 years old creating scenes of strange animalistic characters dancing together, using only one continuous line. By age 7 she was sneaking on her grandparents computer to apply to the Art Institute of San Francisco for fashion designing. From ages 11 to 17 she took an interest in graphics design and social media branding, becoming proficient early on with programs like Adobe Photoshop and Cinema4D. At the age of 16 and 17, her art was displayed in local galleries and at the Orange Show in San Bernardino County, California. At the age of 19, she relocated to Seattle, Washington battled homelessness and even created an art program at the shelter she lived at which received thousands of dollars in funding to provide art supplies to fellow homeless youth. She has since moved back to Southern California and continued to pursue her art career despite adversities.
Since her introduction to Web3 in early 2020, Dove has debuted in shows across the US in Seattle, Denver, Houston, New York and internationally in Croatia. She is part of the MakingIt24/7 and SurrealismGroup Web3-based artist collectives. Her work is in private collections alongside some of the biggest names in cryptoart, like Beeple and Fewocious. In 2021, she ran a Web3 talk show with Andres Zighelboim called “The Dark Art Show” which focused on underground NFT artists whose works were of a darker nature, more visceral, emotional and abrasive. Over the course of the year both Dove and Andres interviewed nearly 100 artists working in the space. In 2022 she created Project Dudes, an 8k generative art collection with its biggest utility being to support emerging artists in the space.
